Why do bespoke briefs fail?
Four causes account for most failures, and all four are avoidable at briefing stage. The first is a delivery date fixed before feasibility is confirmed, leaving no room for permit processing. The second is a grade tolerance written so tightly that yield collapses and the cost per usable panel multiplies. The third is a colour reference approved from a digital image, which almost always disappoints against a physical hide. The fourth is a species chosen for its name rather than its behaviour in the intended product — python is beautiful in a clutch and difficult in a structured tote for reasons unrelated to quality.

What does the finish stage involve?
Finishing is where a bespoke project becomes visually distinctive, and also where traceability is most often broken. Colour matching, glazing, matt or semi-matt finishes, and specific scale treatments are achievable, but each is a batch process with a minimum viable run size, so a custom colour on a small quantity is disproportionately expensive. Batch records must keep the original permit reference attached — if that link is lost between wet-blue and finished panel, the hide may still be beautiful but the compliance file has a hole in it.

How is a bespoke project quoted?
We quote against the written specification rather than a general enquiry, because every variable above moves the number. Quotations cover material, processing, documentation handling, and export logistics as separate lines, and sampling is quoted separately from production. Government fees connected with permits are payable at the rates authorities set. We do not publish a rate card for bespoke work, because a published number for custom material would mislead in almost every case.
We also do not promise a permit outcome, a customs clearance date, or a guaranteed yield from natural material. Any supplier offering those three guarantees on a bespoke exotic leather project is describing a business that does not exist.

A custom colour or finish is a batch process with a minimum viable run, so a very small order in a bespoke shade can cost more per hide than a much larger order in a standard finish. Can you match a colour reference from a previous season?
Usually yes, if you can supply a physical reference rather than a digital image or a printed swatch. We confirm what is achievable at sampling stage and ask for written approval against the physical sample.
